Pride in the Park

It was a winter celebration full of tank tops, sandals and shorts when more than 10,000 people gathered for the second annual Winter Pride Tampa Bay’s “Pride in the Park.” Tampa Bay residents said their city needed the dose of pride. Area lawmakers have battled whether the Gay-Straight Alliance has a place in the city’s public schools, and past Tampa pride events have been discontinued. Many gays and lesbians have left Tampa for the nearby city of St. Petersburg, which they say is a much more welcoming community.
