Notes on a Scandal is a film about conflicting relationships. It tells the story of Barbara Covett (Judi Dench), a history teacher who attempts to start a lesbian love affair with fellow teacher Sheba Hart (Cate Blanchett) but discovers that Sheba is already having an affair.
